FAQ

Materials Testing Laboratory FAQs

Straight answers to the questions Houston owners, contractors, and engineers actually ask about materials testing, laboratory services, concrete, soils, and our A2LA-accredited in-house lab.

Yes, client information, sample details, test results, and project documents are handled securely. Reports are released only to the client and other authorized parties identified for the project. Information is not shared with outside parties unless the client provides authorization or disclosure is required by applicable law or regulation.

LAB

Quality is maintained through documented procedures, trained personnel, calibrated equipment, routine maintenance, and appropriate quality-control checks. Depending on the test, quality-control measures may include blanks, duplicates, standards, control samples, and data reviews. Results are reviewed for completeness and consistency before the final report is issued.

LAB

Yes, our technical professionals can explain the test methods, results, and their potential significance for the project. We can help identify whether materials meet specified criteria and discuss possible causes of unusual findings. When appropriate, we can also recommend additional testing, engineering evaluation, monitoring, or corrective action.

LAB

Final results are typically issued electronically in a professional laboratory report. The report may include sample identification, test methods, measured results, units, applicable specifications, observations, and supporting tables or graphs. Reports can also be organized to meet project, client, or regulatory reporting requirements.

LAB

Each submitted sample is assigned a unique laboratory identification number and recorded in the project tracking system. Sample information, requested tests, storage conditions, transfers, and final disposition are documented throughout the testing process. Environmental samples are additionally tracked using chain-of-custody procedures to maintain traceability and data integrity.

LAB

Expedited testing may be available for projects with urgent construction, environmental, or regulatory deadlines. Rush service depends on the requested test, equipment availability, sample preparation requirements, and laboratory capacity. Clients should contact the laboratory as early as possible to confirm the achievable turnaround time and any additional fees.

LAB

Turnaround time depends on the test method, number of samples, sample condition, and current laboratory workload. Some routine tests can be completed within several business days, while strength, consolidation, permeability, or specialized chemical testing may require additional time. An estimated schedule will be provided after reviewing the testing requirements.

LAB

Contact our laboratory before submitting samples so we can confirm the required sample quantity, container type, labeling, preservation, and transportation procedures. Each sample should include clear project information and the requested analyses. Environmental samples may also require a completed chain-of-custody form and specific holding-time requirements.

LAB

Testing is performed using applicable ASTM, AASHTO, EPA, and other recognized industry methods. We also follow project-specific specifications when required by the client, engineer, or regulatory agency. Every test method is selected based on the sample type, project objectives, and intended use of the results.

LAB

Our laboratory provides testing for soil, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, groundwater, and other construction or environmental materials. Available services may include moisture content, particle-size distribution, Atterberg limits, compaction, density, strength, permeability, and chemical analysis. Testing programs can be customized to match project specifications and regulatory requirements.
